Cut A Shine Monthly Dances
September - Autumn Equinox
The first in our autumn and winter season of dances. As night extends to the same length as the day, autumn starts, and we head indoors from the fields and parks of summer. There is much to look forward to in the darker months - particularly a monthly endorphin releasing ceilidh dance!
We always have a full bar and a bubbling pot of delicious and healthy seasonal stew (with rice) on the hob.
Order of the Night
19:30: Venue, Bar and Food Stall Bar Opens
20:00 - 21:00: First Set of dances - more simple ones to learn the moves
21:00 - 21:30: Break!
21:30 - 23:30: Barn Dance Proper
We have a live band on stage to provide the music, and a "Dance Caller", who is expert at teaching you all the simple and fun moves. First we learn the dance by walking through it with the caller, then the band strike up, and we dance to the music. You don't need any experience, just willingness to have a go and have fun.
Our dances are All Inclusive, regardless of age, gender, ability, ethnicity or sexual orientation. Although based largely on traditional European and American dance forms, we welcome all cultures and peoples to enjoy these dances and culture. We have tailored our dances to be non-heteronormative and involve everyone. We welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community.
It’s a Dance! What to wear and what NOT to wear!
A gentle reminder, please wear appropriate footwear, as this is a vigorous dance session! It’s also an “old fashioned” dance, where you have a dancing partner (sometimes 2!) and have to hold hands sometimes. There is physical contact. Loose flowing clothing is fun, and you will get hot and sweaty!
